This week was full of volatility in NY “ICE” and in the currency that failed to maintain an up or down trend in the market, making volatility seems like the only constant in the market.
- Conab released on the 16th, Thursday, its updated figures for the 21/22 harvest, with a total of 47.72 million bags, which represents 24.4% less than the 20/21 harvest. With the production of arabica 31.42 million and of conilon 16.29 million;
- The Sul de Minas region received the first carbon neutral certificate. This same certification had already been received in the Cerrado of Minas Gerais, which demonstrates the growing commitment of Brazilian producers to sustainability;
- GCA’s US stocks decreased by 132,386 bags with a final balance of 5.8 million 60kg bags;
- For making too many mistakes in relation to local economic forecasts, Economy Minister Paulo Guedes requested the closure of the IMF (International Monetary Fund) office in Brazil, which then ends its representation in the country;
- England confirms the first death caused by the new Ômicron variant. Experts say 2 doses of any vaccine is not effective against the variant.

WEATHER
The cold front that arrived in recent days caused rain in all coffee regions, maintaining moderate temperatures in areas with rainfall. For the next 7 days the rains should be from moderate to heavy for the coffee regions in Minas Gerais.
Rain forecast for next week:
- Sul de Minas region: rain forecast between 50 and 100 mm;
- Zona da Mata region: rain forecast between 70 and 130 mm;
- Cerrado region: rain forecast around 80 mm;
- Garça region: rain forecast around10 mm;
- Alta Mogiana region: rain forecast around 15 mm;
DOMESTIC MARKET and FOB
Domestic market with low liquidity, very short on sellers during the week and practically no trades. There is a good volume of coffee in the warehouses, but on the other hand, there is little offer of coffee at the counter. Several companies are preparing for the collective vacation from the 20th, returning in January/22.
Coffee prices on the internal market;
- Strictly soft good cup running screen: seller between R$ 1.480 and R$ 1.540,00;
- Strictly soft fine cup running screen: seller between R$ 1.550,00 and R$ 1.600,00;
- Rio Minas running screen: around R$ 1.400,00, but the market is short in sellers;
- Rio Minas #17/18 seller around R$ 1.620,00 and # 15/16 around R$ 1.580,00;
- 600 defects around R$1.350,00 with little interest of the local industries.
For FOB export it was a week with no demand. Abroad, partners report little appetite for new business on the part of the industry. At the same time, the differentials offered at the time, not competitive at all, also keep dealers out of new purchases. Traders are generally watching the moves in New York, moves that bring a dose of emotion to price fixed sales.
LOGISTICS
The logistical scenario can be summarized in more of the same, that is, it remains delicate and the problems of 2021 already extend to 2022, such as lack of space on some routes in the first month of the year.
COVID-19 IN BRAZIL
Anvisa authorized this week the vaccination of children between 5 and 11 years old. The dose for children will be even lower than for teenagers.

Fraudsters have created accounts at the domains atlanticacoffeee.com (with 3 letters “e”), atlanticacoffees (plural) and atlantlcacoffee (using the lowercase of L instead of the letter i) and for the prefixes using the names of our employees, even imitating our signatures. They are quoting coffee, issuing invoices with altered payment data, mostly to banks in Hong Kong, which we are not ours! Please be aware of the sender of the messages and always question instructions to change bank details!
