The Geisha coffee from Primavera Farm, located in the Minas Gerais municipality of Angel\u00e2ndia, was recognized in 2019 for the second consecutive year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2018, the farm took the title of champion and set a new record for the most expensive coffee in Brazil. At this year\u2019s competition, Geisha coffee ascended to the podium once again as first runner-up at the COE. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Being on the podium for two consecutive years in the main coffee quality contest in the world shows the <strong>consistency in quality of Primavera Farm.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Being consistent is one of the most important things for a specialty coffee farm that aims to be recognized internationally. Primavera\u2019s Farm Geisha Natural Anaerobic coffee took second place among <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlanticacoffee.com\/en\/the-best-of-brazilian-green-coffee-beans\/\">Brazil\u2019s best coffees<\/a>, earning  <\/span><b>92.15 points at the 2019 Cup of Excellence competition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our performance at the competition is the result of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlanticacoffee.com\/en\/montesanto-tavares-group-from-coffee-production-to-international-coffee-trading-on-all-continents\/\">Montesanto Tavares Group\u2019<\/a> increased dedication to its crops and focus on quality processes, producing special, consistent and exceptional coffees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leonardo Montesanto Tavares, director of GMT Farms, expressed his appreciation with the following words:<em>\u201cThis award demonstrates that hard work is worth it, that dedication and consistency are important, and that we are professionals at what we do. This award is for everyone at Primavera Farm.  <\/em>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2019, the Cup of Excellence underwent a notable change. For the first time, it began accepting samples of natural coffees and peeled\/pulped cherries in a special category, refining the search for excellent beans produced in Brazil. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<em>\u201cWe came in second at the biggest competition of specialty coffees from Brazil. We did not repeat our 2018 victory, but we are very happy because we were recognized as a model farm in the worldwide production of quality coffees. Congratulations to everyone on the Primavera Farm-Angel\u00e2ndia -MG team  <\/em>,\u201d commented Ricardo Tavares, Leonardo\u2019s father and director of Montesanto Tavares Group (GMT).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most expensive coffee to win the 2018 Cup of Excellence is produced on Primavera Farm<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3201 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.atlanticacoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/O-caf%C3%A9-mais-caro-da-hist%C3%B3ria-campe%C3%A3o-do-Cup-of-Excellence-2018-%C3%A9-produzido-na-Fazenda-Primavera.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"886\" height=\"886\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2018, the Geisha variety coffee from Primavera Farm, a farm owned by the GMT Farms holding company, won the 2018 Cup of Excellence champion award and the historic record for the most expensive coffee in the world. The award ceremony took place in the city of Guaxup\u00e9, Minas Gerais, in the \u201cNatural Pulped\u201d category.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coffee beans from Primavera\u2019s \u201cGeisha\u201d variety earned <\/span><b>93.89 points at the 2018 Cup of Excellence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, winning the competition for the first time. According to a column in Forbes magazine, connoisseurs refer to the beverage as \u201cblack gold,\u201d thus granting Primavera Farm the renown of producing one of the best coffees in the world. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHigh-scoring beans like these are showing the world the true quality of Brazilian coffee. This is our job: to make our property stand out when it comes to quality coffee,\u201d adds producer Leonardo Tavares.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Primavera\u2019s Farm Geisha coffee broke a price record for the most expensive coffee in Brazil when a 60 kilo bag sold for approximately R$73,000\u2013that is, R$ 1,220.00 a kilo. Its high price was not in vain: the SCA awarded the coffee 93.89 points at the 2018 COE. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">COE sold the winning coffee from the 2018 Cup of Excellence in an online auction in two lots: the first for USD $18,915.66\/bag (R$ 72,967.19) to Ally Coffee of the United States and Europe, and the second lot for USD $15,866.51\/bag (R$ 61,282.23) to Maruyama Coffee, a Japanese coffee chain that specializes in coffees from around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Geisha Primavera \u2013 Consistency in specialty coffees<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3203 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.atlanticacoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Geisha-Primavera.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"886\" height=\"592\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geisha variety beans are highly complex and flavorful. The main characteristic of Geisha Primavera is its floral aroma, but its sweetness, acidity and velvety body also give personality to the drink. In the cup, it is possible to taste jasmine, bergamot, and tropical and wild fruits.   <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Primavera\u2019s Farm Geisha variety is carefully produced with attention to the smallest of details. From its selective harvesting to its drying on a suspended terrace and separate storage in microlots, Primavera\u2019s Geisha coffee is treated with special care. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women pick the fruit by hand when the cherry reaches its most ripe stage. The coffee is processed via the natural method, placed in fermentation tanks, and taken to suspended terraces, without rest. After drying for 20 days, the coffee is stored in the husk to rest until the competition.   <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Primavera Farm<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3204 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.atlanticacoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Fazenda-Primavera.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"886\" height=\"589\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.atlanticacoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Fazenda-Primavera.png 886w, https:\/\/www.atlanticacoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Fazenda-Primavera-480x319.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 886px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Primavera Farm is located in the municipality of Angel\u00e2ndia, in Minas Gerais. It lies in a biome transition zone of Chapada de Minas in which the land and vegetation have characteristics of both the Atlantic Forest and the Cerrado. The farm\u2019s elevation, between 950 and 1050 meters above sea level, as well as the climate, with average temperatures ranging from 20-24\u00b0 C and annual precipitation between 1,000 and 1,300 mm, promote the cultivation of specialty coffee.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mountainous Chapada de Minas region in which the farm is located has vegetation characteristic of the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest regions, conferring an exuberant, varied biodiversity. With high relative humidity, weather similar to that of Central America, and loamy soil, Primavera\u2019s Farm climate alternates between dry periods and intense rains.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The coffee is cultivated on plateaus and rolling hills; streams and rivers run throughout the entire farm. Mahogany trees are planted alongside the coffee, resulting in shade-grown beans that ripen more slowly and, ultimately, a sweet drink with special characteristics.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When ripe, the coffee is mechanically harvested and processed at a quality station with the utmost care. As the world\u2019s leading coffee quality competition, the Cup of Excellence \u2013 Brazil is held in Brazil by the Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association (BSCA), in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) and the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The COE is an annual competition held in several countries to identify the highest quality coffees produced, and the winning coffees are auctioned online. The competitions began in 1999 and until 2018, editions were held in the following countries: Brazil, Colombia, Peru, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Burundi and Rwanda.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Winning coffees are selected and scored in blind tastings. The winning farm and specific coffee lot information is submitted by each producer and is not known to the public until the awards ceremony. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Cup of Excellence finalists, after passing through the National and International phases, receive the Cup of Excellence award and are sold through an international online auction to the highest bidder.
