HISTORY OF ARABICA COFFEE DUBAI
Arabica coffee Dubai originates from Ethiopia and was first cultivated in Yemen. The bean of the coffee plant Coffea arabica crossed the Red Sea from Ethiopia to present-day Yemen and lower Arabia. From there, it got its name “Arabica”. The first written evidence about coffee made from roasted coffee beans was written by Arab scholars, who wrote how the grounded coffee beans helped them to prolong their working hours. The technique of making brewed coffee from roasted beans first spread from Yemen to Egypt and Turks.
However, Arabica coffee is now grown in all of the coffee-suitable regions around the world, especially in Brazil. Other than Brazil, it is also cultivated in Africa, Latin America, and Indonesia. However, currently, Brazil grows around one-third of the world’s total coffee bean production. So, it is the largest producer of coffee beans in the world. Just not that, it also produces a wide variety of coffee beans and exports them to different parts of the world.
CULTIVATION OF ARABICA COFFEE
Arabica coffee plants take about four years to produce fully. They grow best in higher altitudes. However, they can be grown at sea level as well, but will present a totally different cupping profile from the mountains’ ones. The coffee plants can withstand low temperatures but be susceptible to frosts losts. After two to four years of planting the Arabica coffee sapling, the plants produce small, white, and strongly scented flowers. The smell of these plant flowers resembles the sweet smell of jasmine flowers.
After some good rains, the plants start producing the berries. The berries appear dark green like leaves and turn yellow when they start to ripe. After that, they turn into light red and finally darken to a glossy, deep red. These berries have the beans inside that we refer to as coffee beans. Each berry usually has two beans. Now, these red berries are referred to as cherries and are picked by the mechanized harvesting method. Mechanized harvesting is used when the berries of all the plants have turned red at the same time.
