Video: Project Mutua – Forests and Springs

by Dec 14, 2023Coffee0 comments

On the journey towards sustainability in the coffee world, Atlantica is tirelessly committed to contributing to truly sustainable coffee growing. A tangible example of this commitment is the Mutua Project, an ambitious and transformative initiative that aims not only to benefit coffee growers, but also to preserve the natural resources of the Matas de Minas region in Brazil.

Results of the Jatobá edition

The Mutua Project, carried out in three phases, diagnosis, implementation and follow-up, has emerged as a concrete initiative for sustainability in coffee growing. The first edition, entitled “Jatobá”, achieved remarkable results:

19 producers assisted

11 municipalities benefited

12,050 seedlings planted

25 springs recovered

These figures represent not just statistics, but success stories of coffee growers committed to sustainable practices.

Actions taken in 2023

The year 2023 saw the completion of the implementations planned in the initial diagnosis. The planting of seedlings, the recovery of springs and the installation of biodigester pits were crucial steps, all funded by Atlantica. But the Mutua Project is not limited to one-off actions; its essence lies in continuous monitoring. Technical visits throughout the year ensured that the proposed improvements were in full force, strengthening the commitment to lasting results.

The award given to coffee growers at the beginning of the year rewarded not only the volume of bags sold, but also their complete commitment to the sustainable journey. Three dollars per bag represents more than a financial incentive; it is tangible recognition of the fundamental role each producer plays in building a sustainable future for coffee.

Next Steps and Looking Ahead to 2024

As we celebrate the successes of 2023, we turn our gaze to the future. The next edition of the Mutua Project, entitled “Jequitibá”, is about to be launched. Twenty producers, uniting their efforts on more than 600 hectares in the Matas de Minas region, will embark on this sustainable journey.

The awards will continue to be a key motivator, while constant monitoring will ensure that the implementations in the Jatobá edition reach their full potential. Projeto Mutua’s vision of the future extends beyond the borders of 2024, reflecting our ongoing commitment to coffee growing that respects the environment, supports local communities and promotes responsible production.
